Introduction

Gilbert FajiculayIn our lives, there are places and events that remain more or less permanent in one's memory. Many events are not within our power to change. However, we do have the power to positively react on, adapt to, absorb or assimilate the impact of such events. One could seize the moment or the moment could also seize him.

My goal in writing this story is primarily to present the facts to many or most Simaranhons who have forgotten some history of the land from which they came from. The sources of this work came from available written records, from interviews of older residents, and from my own experiences. The students in our schools can surely gain from the information presented in this story.

Wartime Memories of a Simaranhon Foot Soldier
An interview of Armando Falceso by Gilbert Fajiculay, July 2002

Gilbert FajiculayIn the history of human conflicts, we always read or hear about the heroic actions of men and women who put their lives in harm's way in order to protect and defend their homeland and fellowmen. This is true regardless of the size of the conflict. All their actions are necessary as each mission, small or big, is important and significant to the achievement of the ultimate objective. Each action produces a hero and unsung heroes as well.

This is a story of one foot soldier. His name is Armando Fallar Falceso, the eldest among twelve children of Julio Faderagao Falceso and Lucia Faminiano Fallar. He is one of those unsung heroes in World War II. This is his recollection of the liberation of Simara during World War II.

FEBRUARY 2 is SIMARA’s SEED

Mayor Mazo signing the proclamation, witnessed by Vice Mayor Denny Fetalvero, Principal Ontoy Famorcan, MPDC Danilo Fabiala and the Teaching Staff of Corcuera National High School.

By virtue of Proclamation No. 1 s. 2010, February 2 is Secondary Education Eventful Day (SEED) for Simara and Simaranhons.    This historical signing of the proclamation was done by Honorable Mayor Eddie Fondevilla Mazo right in his office during the Golden Founding Anniversary of Corcuera Academy now Corcuera National High School (CORNAHIS), Tuesday February 2, 2010.

Students and teachers in SEED formation at the school campus

Prior to the signing of the proclamation was the holding of a special flag-raising ceremony in the school campus.  The ceremony was made unusual because of the historical ‘SEED’ formation of students and CORNAHIS teaching staff headed by Principal Melchor ‘Ontoy’ Famorcan.  English and Music Teacher Mrs. Mary Jane Fallaria and Supreme Student President Terence Fabicon led the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and recitation of both Panunumpa sa Watawat ng Pilipinas and the school’s Vision and Mission, respectively.
